SA20 2027 Schedule : Cricket South Africa has officially announced the schedule for the SA20 2027 season, with the fifth edition of the tournament set to take place from January 17 to February 21, 2027. The season will begin with a blockbuster clash between defending champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals, while the final will be played at Newlands, Cape Town, on February 21.

Defending Champions to Kick Off the Tournament

The opening match of SA20 2027 will be held at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on January 17, featuring a rematch of last season’s final between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals. The two sides produced one of the most memorable finals in SA20 history last season, making it a fitting way to launch the new campaign.

Paarl Royals and Jo’burg Super Kings in Day 2 Clash

The second day of the tournament will see Paarl Royals host Jo’burg Super Kings at Boland Park. Both teams reached the playoffs last season and will be aiming to make another strong title challenge in 2027.

Four Saturday Double-Headers Scheduled

Fans can look forward to four exciting Saturday double-headers, with two matches scheduled on each of the following dates:

  • January 23
  • January 30
  • February 6
  • February 13

The final league-stage fixture will be played on February 14, when MI Cape Town take on Pretoria Capitals at Newlands.

SA20 2027 Playoff Schedule

  • Qualifier 1: Tuesday, February 16 – Boland Park, Paarl
  • Eliminator: Wednesday, February 17 – Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
  • Qualifier 2: Friday, February 19 – Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg
  • Final: Sunday, February 21 – Newlands, Cape Town

For the first time in SA20 history, Paarl will host a playoff fixture, while Johannesburg will stage both the Eliminator and Qualifier 2.

Newlands to Host the Final Again

Newlands will host the SA20 final for the second consecutive season and the third time overall, reinforcing its status as one of South Africa’s premier cricket venues. The iconic stadium will also play a key role in the country’s cricket calendar as South Africa prepares to host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup later in the year.

Graeme Smith Excited for Season 5

SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith welcomed the release of the fixtures, calling it an important milestone ahead of the new season.

“Announcing the SA20 fixtures is always a big moment for us. It’s the first major milestone ahead of the new season, and it means the wheels are in motion as we build towards another incredible month of cricket.”

Speaking about the opening fixture, Smith added:

“There is no better way to start Season 5 than with a repeat of one of the most thrilling finals in our history. Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals delivered a classic in Cape Town last season, and it’s fitting that they open the tournament.”

Cape Town Ready to Welcome the Final

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed his delight at Newlands once again hosting the tournament’s biggest match.

“Cape Town is proud to once again host the SA20 Final. The league has become a major event on our sporting calendar, and hosting the final in the same year as the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup highlights our city’s place among the world’s great cricket destinations.”

Paarl Gets Its First Playoff Match

Graeme Smith also welcomed the decision to award Boland Park its first-ever SA20 playoff match.

“The Paarl fans have been among the most passionate supporters of the league, and I’m delighted that they will finally get the opportunity to host a playoff in the form of Qualifier 1.”
